Updated October 20268 min readBy the Wild Excursions naturalist team

The short answer

Tadoba is reached via Nagpur, the nearest airport and biggest railway junction. From Nagpur it's about 110 km to Kolara gate (2–2.5 hours) and 140–150 km to Moharli (3–3.5 hours). The closest railway station is Chandrapur, 30–45 km from Moharli. From most Indian metros, the quickest route is a flight to Nagpur plus a drive. From Hyderabad and central Maharashtra, driving works well. International travellers connect via Delhi, Mumbai or Doha.

Distance from Nagpur to each Tadoba gate

Tadoba has six core gates spread around a reserve of more than 1,700 sq km, so "how far is Tadoba?" really means "how far is my gate?"

By air: fly to Nagpur

Nagpur's Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport is the only practical airport for Tadoba. Direct domestic flights connect it with Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune and Ahmedabad, and it has international links to Doha (Qatar Airways, resumed May 2026) and Sharjah (Air Arabia).

Pre-book a car from the airport. The drive takes 2–2.5 hours to Kolara or 3–3.5 hours to Moharli. Try to land before noon if you want an evening safari on arrival day.

By rail: Chandrapur, Nagpur or Warora

Village lane in rural Vidarbha near Tadoba
  • Chandrapur is the closest major station to Moharli (30–45 km), on the Delhi–Chennai trunk line. Best for travellers from Hyderabad and the south.
  • Nagpur Junction is where the Mumbai–Howrah and Delhi–Chennai lines cross, so it has the most trains from everywhere. Best for Kolara and Navegaon.
  • Warora is a smaller station about 50 km from Kolara. It's often overlooked and can save time.
  • Ballarshah, just south of Chandrapur, is a big junction with many long-distance stops.

Check current trains on NTES or IRCTC. Services and stops change. The old weekly "Tadoba Express" was withdrawn in 2022, for example.

By road

  • From Nagpur: the Umred–Chimur road for Kolara and Navegaon, or via Umred–Bhisi–Chimur or Warora for Moharli.
  • From Mumbai, Pune and western Maharashtra: the Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai–Nagpur Expressway) to the Wardha interchange, then via Warora.
  • From Hyderabad and the south: NH44 to Adilabad, then east to Chandrapur and Moharli.
  • From Raipur and the east: NH53 towards Nagpur, cutting across via Bhandara and Umred for Kolara.

Avoid driving the final forest-edge stretch after dark. There's wildlife on the road, unlit villages and slow tractors.
