Tadoba Cruiser Safari: Cost, Booking and Who Can Go
The short answer
The Tadoba cruiser is a 9-seater shared safari vehicle in the Moharli and Kolara core, sold by the seat at ₹700. It's now open to all visitors, with one condition: cruiser permits can only be booked through designated homestays around Tadoba. Stay at one of them and they book your seat. A private Gypsy, by comparison, starts at ₹5,800 for the whole vehicle.

What the Tadoba cruiser safari is
The cruiser is Tadoba's shared safari: a modified 9-seat vehicle that runs through the core on the same allotted routes as the Gypsies, with seats sold one at a time for ₹700.
For solo travellers, couples and anyone on a budget, it's by far the cheapest way into Tadoba's core. You share the vehicle with other guests rather than hiring the whole Gypsy.

Who can go on a cruiser now
Everyone. Cruiser seats used to be reserved for Chandrapur district residents and booked offline at forest offices. That restriction no longer applies: the cruiser is now open to all visitors, from anywhere in India or abroad.
The one condition: cruiser permits can only be booked through designated homestays around Tadoba. You can't book a cruiser seat on the regular online Gypsy portal, and you can't just turn up with a booking made elsewhere. Stay at a participating homestay and it books your seat.
The reserve's portal still shows the older locals-only cruiser rules. Arrangements like this change at short notice, so we confirm the current process for your dates before booking anything.
How to book a cruiser seat
- Pick your date and gate. Cruisers run in the Moharli and Kolara core zones, so choose the side of the reserve you'll be staying on.
- Stay at a participating homestay. Cruiser permits are booked through designated homestays around Tadoba. You book your room there, and the homestay books your cruiser seat.
- Share ID details for every guest. As with every Tadoba safari, each seat is issued against the guest's name and original photo ID. Carry the original to the gate.
- Be at the gate on time. Cruisers follow the same gate timings as Gypsies, and late arrivals are not let in.
Homestays are simple village stays, not resorts: clean rooms, home-cooked food and hosts who know the forest edge well. For many travellers that's part of the appeal. If you'd rather stay at a resort, you can still book a Gypsy safari from there instead.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Tadoba cruiser safari?
A shared, 9-seater modified safari vehicle that runs in the Moharli and Kolara core zones. Seats are sold individually at ₹700 each.
Can tourists book the Tadoba cruiser safari now?
Yes. The cruiser is now open to all visitors, not just Chandrapur district residents. The condition is that cruiser permits can only be booked through designated homestays around Tadoba, so you need to stay at one of them.
How much does the Tadoba cruiser safari cost?
₹700 per seat. That is far cheaper than a full Gypsy, which costs ₹5,800 on a weekday in the core (booked 1–59 days ahead), or about ₹1,450 per person across four people.
How do I book a Tadoba cruiser seat?
Book a stay at one of the participating homestays near Moharli or Kolara, and the homestay books your cruiser permit. Cruiser seats can't be booked on the regular online Gypsy portal. We can arrange the homestay and the seat for you.
Which routes does the cruiser cover?
Cruisers run from the Moharli core and Kolara core gates, on routes allotted by the forest department, just like Gypsies.
Is the cruiser or a Gypsy better?
The cruiser is the budget choice: one seat for a fraction of the price, shared with other guests. A Gypsy gives your group a private vehicle, a choice of gates (including buffer gates) and more flexibility for photography.
