Tadoba Safari Gate Information: Every Entry Point, Explained

A practical, gate-by-gate look at Tadoba's safari entry points — which side of the reserve each one sits on, and how to pick a gate based on where you are staying rather than a name on a list.

Tadoba Safari Gate Information: Every Entry Point, Explained

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is not entered through a single gate — it has multiple entry points spread across the core and buffer zones, and picking the right one is as much about logistics as it is about sighting odds.

This is a practical guide to the gates themselves: where they sit, what kind of stay they suit, and how to choose sensibly instead of picking a name you half-remember from a forum post.

Core Zone Gates

Moharli — the busiest, best-connected gate, with the widest range of resorts nearby. The default choice for first-time visitors. • Khutwanda — a quieter entry into broadly the same tourism belt as Moharli, useful when Moharli permits are full. • Kolara — on the Chimur side of the reserve, popular with repeat visitors and photographers for its distinct routes. • Navegaon — solid all-round sightings with less crowding than Moharli. • Zari and Pangdi — eastern gates opening into the lightly visited Kolsa range, good for travellers who want a quieter core experience.

Buffer Zone Gates

The buffer has far more entry points than the core, including Agarzari, Junona, Devada-Adegaon, Mamla, Alizanza, Sirkheda, Belara, Palasgaon, Nimdhela and Ramdegi.

Several of these — Agarzari and Nimdhela in particular — are known among regular visitors for strong resident tigers and noticeably fewer vehicles than the core gates.

How to Choose a Gate — By Where You Are Staying

The most common mistake is choosing a gate by reputation and then discovering the closest lodges are fully booked or an hour's drive away. Work backwards instead: shortlist stays within a comfortable pre-dawn transfer of your target gate, then confirm permit availability for that gate on your dates.

As a rule, aim to keep the lodge-to-gate transfer under 30 minutes — a 6 AM safari entry already means a very early start, and a long drive beforehand eats into sleep for no benefit.

Can You Change Gates Mid-Trip?

Yes, and for multi-day trips we usually recommend it. A permit is booked per gate per safari slot, so nothing stops you from booking Moharli for your first two drives and a buffer gate like Navegaon or Kolara for the next two — as long as your stay is positioned reasonably between them, or you are willing to accept a longer transfer for one or two drives.

This is exactly how we plan multi-safari packages: gates are chosen drive by drive based on where the sightings have been, not fixed for the whole trip.

Let Us Handle the Gate Strategy

We book permits across every Tadoba gate, and we choose them based on which zones are producing sightings that week — not a name on a forum thread from last season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Tadoba gate is best?

There is no single best gate. Moharli is the most established and best-connected; buffer gates like Agarzari and Nimdhela offer strong sightings with far fewer vehicles. The right choice depends on your dates and where you are staying.

How many entry gates does Tadoba have?

Tadoba has several core zone gates — including Moharli, Khutwanda, Kolara, Navegaon, Zari and Pangdi — plus a larger number of buffer zone gates spread around the reserve's perimeter.

Can I use a different gate for each safari on a multi-day trip?

Yes. Permits are booked per gate per safari slot, so a multi-day trip can mix core and buffer gates across different drives.

How do I pick a gate if I don't know the reserve?

Start from your stay rather than the gate's reputation — shortlist a lodge within about 30 minutes of your target gate, then confirm permit availability for your dates.
