Full Day Safari in Tadoba and Pench

Photographer’s guide · 2026–27 fees

Quick answer

A full-day safari in Tadoba costs ₹50,000 per vehicle for Indian visitors and ₹70,000 for foreign visitors, for either the buffer or a core photography permit. You keep one Gypsy from morning opening to evening closing. It suits photographers and serious trackers; for most guests, four regular drives give better value.

The basics

What is a full-day safari?

A full-day safari is a single permit that gives one vehicle access to the forest for the whole day, instead of the separate morning and afternoon slots that most visitors book. You stay with the same driver and guide, and you can wait at a sighting or a waterhole through the middle of the day, when regular vehicles have left.

In Tadoba, the reserve sells two kinds: a full-day buffer safari and a full-day core photography safari. Both are booked on the official portal like regular permits, and both cost the same.

Do the maths

Full day vs regular drives: what you pay

A full day costs roughly two to four times as much as two regular slots on the same day, and up to twice as much as four regular drives across two days. You are paying for uninterrupted time, a smaller group in the core and the chance to stay with an animal, not for extra access.

Full-day core photography (Indian)up to 4₹50,000₹12,500

Why people book it

What a full day gives you

The main reason

Time with one animal

If a tigress settles at a waterhole at 10 am, regular vehicles must leave the forest. On a full day you stay in the zone: you give her space under the rules (in Tadoba, at least 20 metres and no more than 15 minutes at a sighting), then wait nearby for her next move.

Summer bonus

Midday behaviour

In April–June, tigers often lie in water through the hottest hours. Very few vehicles see this.

Space for kit

Fewer guests in the core

A core full-day Gypsy carries up to four guests, so photographers have room to move a lens.

More forest time

No gate turnaround

You skip the return to the gate, lunch break and re-entry, which saves time in long transfers from distant lodges.

Be honest about it

Who should not book a full day

  • Young children: twelve hours in an open vehicle, much of it in heat, is too long.
  • First-timers on a budget: four regular drives spread across two days usually give better odds per rupee.
  • Anyone sensitive to heat: midday in May often passes 42°C with no shade.
  • Uncertain dates: full-day permits cannot be cancelled or refunded.
  • Anyone hoping for after-dark time: a full day ends at the evening closing time; night tourism is not permitted.

How we would plan it

A full day in Tadoba, hour by hour

  1. 1

    Before dawn

Leave the lodge with packed breakfast and lunch, plenty of water and electrolytes. Reach the gate before reporting time with the original IDs used for booking.

  2. 2

    First light to mid-morning

Drive the main routes while animals are active. Follow fresh pugmarks and alarm calls with your guide.

  3. 3

    Late morning to mid-afternoon

Settle at a waterhole known for tiger activity. This is when the full day earns its price: quiet, patient waiting while other vehicles are outside.

  4. 4

    Late afternoon to closing

Animals start moving again. Work the roads near water and meadows until the evening exit time.

Which permit?

Full-day core photography vs full-day buffer

For the core photography permit, our Tadoba photography safari page explains how the window runs from 15 minutes before the gate opens to 15 minutes after it closes.

Twelve hours in a Gypsy

What to carry on a full-day safari

  • Packed breakfast and lunch from the lodge in sealed, reusable boxes; no plastic.
  • At least four litres of water per person in summer, plus electrolytes.
  • Wide hat, scarf, sunscreen and a light long-sleeved shirt.
  • Bean bag, spare batteries and cards, a lens cloth and a dust cover.
  • A cushion or seat pad; Gypsy seats are hard by mid-afternoon.
  • Original ID for every guest, exactly as entered on the permit.

Learn from others

Common full-day mistakes

  • Booking without a plan: agree with your guide which waterholes and routes to work, and when to move.
  • Wrong side of the reserve: stay near your gate; a long lodge transfer before dawn wastes the best hour.
  • Underestimating heat: dehydration ends more full days early than anything else.
  • Treating it as unlimited access: the same tracks, distances and 15-minute sighting rule apply.
  • Booking it as a first drive: do one or two regular drives first to learn the zone.

The other park

Full-day safari in Pench

Pench is split between Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, with separate booking portals and fee tables. Full-day permits are offered in some Madhya Pradesh reserves, but we have not found a current published 2026–27 full-day rate for Pench that we can verify, so we do not quote one here.

If you want a full day in Pench, we check availability and the current rate with the forest department for your dates before you pay anything. Regular slots are explained in Pench safari timings and rules, and the right side of the park in Pench MP vs Maharashtra.
